This large ceramic plant pot, with a diameter of about 20 cm, was quite a project. It started with shaping the base form, but I then decided to add clay to create a depth effect. This was a process that required a lot of patience. The result was a pot with a rich texture and depth that greatly enhanced its appearance.
Once the clay was properly applied, glazing began, which was a time-consuming process in itself. I chose to apply the glaze mostly with a sponge, allowing the different shades of green to blend smoothly together. I then combined the green glaze with a warm light brown to find a good balance between light and dark, and applied copper glaze to highlight the shapes and add depth.
I really enjoy making this kind of work; I get fully immersed in it. It feels much more personal to me than 'regular' thrown work. It requires so much concentration, but at the same time, it unfolds very intuitively, which allows me to truly clear my mind while creating.
Yesterday, I received a wonderful commission in this new style, namely creating a handmade ceramic urn, which makes me incredibly happy. It feels so special to create something with such personal meaning. Of course, I continue to make my previous work as well, as I still derive a lot of joy from it!
This planter has now found a new home, which is such a lovely thought!
Work on commission
When there is time, I also accept commissions from hospitality businesses like restaurants or other custom work. It’s always a challenge to create unique pieces for such places, but it can sometimes be difficult to find time for this because this type of work is often quite time-consuming. Still, I truly enjoy collaborating with clients and creating custom ceramic pieces that make a special contribution to their interior or atmosphere.
