Pleiades Vase – Nebula Series
The Pleiades Vase from the Nebula series is shaped entirely by hand on the potter's wheel. After the shape has been thrown, the vase is given time to dry slowly and evenly. Once all the moisture has evaporated from the clay, it goes into the kiln for the bisque firing at approximately 1000 degrees. This process creates a strong base with the correct porosity to absorb the glaze well.
The distinctive appearance of this series stems from a fascination with space and the elusive beauty of the universe. The name Nebula refers to the cosmic dust clouds and nebulae where stars are born. This inspiration is translated into the ceramics by the manual application of glaze layers. Because the thickness of the glaze varies slightly across the vase, natural nuances in color and depth emerge during firing, reminiscent of distant galaxies.
During the final high-temperature main firing, the vase is fully fired. Small temperature variations in the ceramic kiln cause the glaze on each vase to react and flow in a unique way. As a result, no two pieces are the same, giving each vase a unique pattern and texture. Due to this high firing temperature, the Pleiades Vase is completely watertight and forms a sturdy, robust base for flowers or branches in the interior.
